Extensive Knowledge & Experience
Many years experience working with both adults and children within NHS, local authority and private healthcare settings
Accredited EMDR Practitioner, RMN, Dip CBT,
Dip Child Psychology, MA Community Mental Health
I am an Accredited EMDR Practitioner and an RMN (registered mental health nurse) with experience working with both adults and children in a variety of healthcare settings within the NHS and private sector. After completing my nurse training, I went on to do an MA in community mental health. This included diploma level training in CBT, greater awareness of medication use with mental health issues and also more advanced assessment skills. I worked for 4 years with acute mental illness within an NHS hospital setting before moving into the community as a CPN (community psychiatric nurse).
Whilst working as a CPN I completed level 1-4 EMDR, this is where my interest in trauma has developed. I have used EMDR to treat both single event trauma and also more complex childhood trauma and PTSD. I have also had positive results using EMDR with low mood, anxiety, phobia and chronic low self-esteem. Often these conditions are linked with past events and EMDR can be that link where some other approaches have not been successful. More recently I have worked with medically unexplained symptoms with great success. This is typically a complex area of therapy and not well understood by medical professionals.
In 2015 I completed Level 1-2 EMDR with children and adolescents. I have a part time role within an NHS children’s mental health service alongside my private practice. My caseload typically exists of children who have experienced distressing recent events and also those who have been in the looked after system and may have gone through many difficult experiences and transitions. I really enjoy the variety of working with both adults and young people. I am very passionate about EMDR particularly with young people and run a peer special interest group where we share ideas, research, trainings and new techniques.
With being both a registered nurse and EMDR practitioner my skills lie in providing a holistic assessment. I have knowledge of medication and would be able to advise you of where to seek further support with this if appropriate. I use recognised outcome measures and so progress with treatment can be measured and reviewed at regular intervals. I offer the flexibility of online EMDR which for some can be a more powerful experience than face to face therapy.

I am a fully insured BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. I have 27 years’ experience of working with adults, children and young people within community settings both for the NHS and the Local Authority. - Significant life events
- Substance abuse
- Life transitions
I have significant experience of using CBT to address stress and anxiety within Occupational Mental Health.
I have a strong belief in the importance of the therapeutic relationship, and this is the base for all of my therapeutic work. I provide a safe and ward therapeutic environment which encourages clients to explore their current thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order to identify a maintenance cycle for the currents difficulties. Clients can then feel empowered to make changes with the therapeutic support in order to lead a more fulfilling life.
I work with clients in a collaborative way, helping to work towards your own goals. I believe that given the right support, you can be in charge of your own mental health and emotional well-being.
Often CBT can be delivered as a brief intervention, sometimes using independent learning in-between therapy sessions. Throughout therapy, we will hold in mind ‘relapse prevention’ in order to support clients once their therapy has ended. Endings can often be anxiety-provoking, but within our sessions, we will explore the ending as we did the beginning; collaboratively, thoroughly and meaningfully.

BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with a PG Diploma in CBT – CYP, PG Certificate in Supervision – CYP IAPT, BSc (Hons) Community Health, BSc (Hons) Mental Health Studies, RMN
I have worked in the NHS for over 30 years in a variety of settings within in patient and community and completed enhanced training with the completion of a BSc (Hons) in Community Mental Health. In 1999 I started working in a community CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) where I further enhance my knowledge, skills and experience with the completion of a BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Studies within the specialism of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ENB 603). In 2015 I undertook further training at Greater Manchester with a Postgraduate Diploma in Evidence based Psychological approaches for children and young people (CBT Pathway). The focus was around specific disorder models and the use of outcome measures to ensure appropriate treatment is effective with an open and effective relationship between the young person and therapist. Following my completion of this course, I further consolidated my skills and knowledge delivering CBT, working with a variety of presentations such as OCD, anxiety disorders, depression and phobia working both individually and with parents (parent led CBT) to facilitate positive outcomes to become an accredited CBT therapist. I have experience in delivering CBT both in a face to face capacity and also remotely via a secure on line platform which allows more flexibility around appointments and often reduces anxiety for a young person when they are able to access therapy from the comfort of their own home.
In 2017 I completed the PG Certificate in Supervision (CYP IAPT) and I am also able to offer supervision to both trainees and qualified CBT therapists, again working either face to face or remotely via video platform.
