Extensive Knowledge & Experience
Many years experience working with both adults and children within NHS, local authority and private healthcare settings
Accredited EMDR Practitioner, RMN, Dip CBT,
Dip Child Psychology, MA Community Mental Health
I am an Accredited EMDR Practitioner and an RMN (registered mental health nurse). After completing my nurse training I went on to do an MA in community mental health. This included diploma level training in CBT, greater awareness of medication use with mental health issues and also more advanced assessment skills. I working for 4 years with acute mental illness within a hospital setting before moving into the community as a CPN (community psychiatric nurse)
Whilst working as a CPN I completed level 1-4 EMDR, this is where my interest in trauma has developed. I have used EMDR to treat both single event trauma and also more complex childhood trauma and PTSD. I have also had positive results using EMDR with low mood, anxiety and chronic low self-esteem. Often these conditions are linked with past events and EMDR can be that link often where some other approaches have not been successful.
In 2015 I completed Level 1-2 EMDR with children and adolescents. I now have a part time role within a children’s mental health service alongside my private practice. I really enjoy the variety of working with both adults and young people.
With being both a registered nurse and EMDR practitioner my skills lie in providing a holistic assessment. I have knowledge of medication and would be able to advise you of where to seek further support with this if appropriate. I use recognised outcome measures and so progress with treatment can be measured and reviewed at regular intervals.
Nicola was fab, she really helped me overcome a lot of my issues & helped me put a plan in place that really works for me.

I have a strong belief in the importance of the therapeutic relationship, and this is the base for all of my therapeutic work. I provide a safe and ward therapeutic environment which encourages clients to explore their current thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order to identify a maintenance cycle for the currents difficulties. Clients can then feel empowered to make changes with the therapeutic support in order to lead a more fulfilling life.
I work with clients in a collaborative way, helping to work towards your own goals. I believe that given the right support, you can be in charge of your own mental health and emotional well-being.
Often CBT can be delivered as a brief intervention, sometimes using independent learning in-between therapy sessions. Throughout therapy, we will hold in mind ‘relapse prevention’ in order to support clients once their therapy has ended. Endings can often be anxiety-provoking, but within our sessions, we will explore the ending as we did the beginning; collaboratively, thoroughly and meaningfully.
